Oprah says weight loss drugs gave her ‘hope’ after ‘years’ of ‘shame’

Oprah recently opened up about how weight loss pills gave her “hope” after many years of feeling ashamed on the primetime special, “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame, and the Weight Loss Revolution.”
The 70-year-old TV star said that in December that she got thinner with the help of a diet medicine, and it felt like “redemption” after a long time of not feeling good about her body.
In the one-hour program, she talked her hope to get rid of the “stigma and the shame and the judgement” that come with taking weight-loss pills.

Oprah shared that people made fun of her size for most of her career. She said, “I have to say that the shame that the world gave to me, for 25 years, making fun of my weight like a national sport.”
Also, Oprah has finally talked about why she chose to end her partnership with WeightWatchers after nearly 10 years. She explained that she left before the TV special because it could be seen as a “conflict of interest.”
“I decided because this special was really important to me, and I wanted to be able to talk about whatever I want to talk about.”

She added that WeightWatchers is now a weight-health company that also provides drug medications for weight loss. She didn’t want there to be any appearance of a conflict of interest.
To show her transparency about ending her time with WeightWatchers, Oprah gave all her shares to the National Museum of African American History. “So nobody can say ‘Oh, she’s doing that special, she’s making money, promoting,’ no, you cannot say that,” she said.
